Jatt Movie Review: A Full-Punjabi Tadka with Masala, Masti & a Little Madness
Punjabi cinema has given us some real gems over the years, and Jatt is one of those movies that tries to blend desi humor, action, and a good old-fashioned emotional punch—all wrapped up in one loud and colorful package.
First things first—Jatt is not your usual “boy-meets-girl, song-dance, happily-ever-after” type of movie. Okay, well… it does have boy-meets-girl, and yes, there are songs, lots of them. But what makes Jatt fun is its over-the-top characters and that unbeatable Punjabi swag that only a true Jatt can bring.
Jatt Movie Review: Plot That Runs Like a Tractor on a Field
The story revolves around Gurman, a hardcore Jatt who loves his land, his buffaloes, and of course, his ego. Played by the ever-charismatic Diljit Dosanjh, Gurman is the kind of guy who can fight ten men, charm ten women, and still have time to fix a broken borewell.
The twist comes when he falls in love with Simran, a sharp, no-nonsense city girl played by the lovely Sonam Bajwa. She’s not impressed by his moustache or his kabaddi medals, and that’s where the fun begins.
One important line from the movie that sticks with you is when Gurman says:
“Jatt da style duniya ton vakhra ae!”
(Translation: The style of a Jatt is different from the whole world!)
Let’s just say, after that dialogue, even his tractor seemed to run faster.
Jatt Movie Review: Characters That Stick (Like Lassi on a Hot Day)
Apart from the leads, the movie is filled with side characters who bring life to the screen. There’s the overdramatic mother who cries at every minor inconvenience (“Rabba, mera putt single kyun ae?”), the chacha who’s forever giving free advice, and the local villain who thinks wearing black glasses makes him scary.
Honestly, the villain is more funny than fearsome. At one point, he tries to threaten Gurman by saying, “Tainu pta ni, main kaun aa?”
And Gurman casually replies, “Pehle tu aapnu pta kar le, fer mainu dasin.”
(First figure out who you are, then come tell me.)
That’s the kind of comedy timing this film offers—effortless and totally desi.
Jatt Movie Review: Music That Makes You Bhangra in Your Seat
It wouldn’t be a Punjabi movie without some foot-tapping beats, and Jatt delivers. From emotional ballads to energetic dance numbers, the soundtrack is pure gold. If you’re not doing balle balle in your living room, are you even watching it right?
Top picks from the soundtrack:
-
“Jatt Da Swag” – the anthem of the film
-
“Gallan Dil Diyaan” – a romantic track that hits just right
-
“Desi Pataka” – for when you need that dhol energy
Final Verdict: Should You Watch It?
If you’re someone who enjoys a mix of comedy, drama, romance, and a bit of flying punches, then yes, Jatt is totally worth your time. It’s not trying to be a Hollywood thriller or a Bollywood epic—it knows exactly what it is: loud, proud, and totally entertaining.
Sure, some parts are exaggerated and a little too filmy, but hey, that’s what we love about Punjabi cinema, isn’t it?
So grab some popcorn (or even better, a plate of butter chicken), and watch Jatt with your family. You’ll laugh, you’ll groove, and you might even start speaking in Punjabi for fun.
“Hor ki chahida, bai?”
